awana444We have completed our initial registration for Awana and have been blessed with record numbers of children in this wonderful outreach and discipleship program. We currently have 76 children signed up. Praise God for such a great turnout! And if history repeats itself, that number will grow during the year as kids bring friends into the program.

Which brings us to the immediate realization that WE NEED MORE HELP!

CubbiesLogo_CMYKOur Cubbies group, age 3 to pre-K, probably has the greatest need with 22 children signed up. Ideally, we like to see 3 Cubbies per leader, requiring 7-8 workers. We currently have only 5 including our director.

sparks1f_150_ltgrayIn Sparks, Kindergarten through 2nd grade, we have 8 leaders for 33 kids. We need at least 10 and would really like 11. Almost half of these children are kindergartners -- and it’s good to keep them 3 to a leader because they have to say verses individually and sometimes reading skills need additional support.

tt-logo-colorT&T, our 3rd through 5th grade group, has 5 teachers for 21 kids. We need 7 leaders to preserve the desired 3 to 1 student ratio. T&T engages third- through fifth-graders by answering their questions about God and the Bible, guiding them through this pivotal life stage to grow in Christ's grace. Adult leadership is critical to this journey.

In addition to the “regulars,” this year we would like to have a number of substitutes who would be willing to fill in on those occasions when leaders are ill or must be away. We really could use 3 or 4 people willing to fill-in or float as needed.

This program has been a remarkable and productive outreach to our community, 74% of the children in this program are from outside Wake Chapel. Although some are from small churches without children’s programs, many are from un-churched families.

Awana stands for “Approved Workmen are not Ashamed” and is derived from 2 Timothy 2:15 which states “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.” We want to see all the children in the program fulfill this goal.

We need your help! We ask that you prayerfully consider giving a small bit of your time this year to helping these children grow in knowledge and faith in the Lord. As little as 30 minutes each Sunday evening, as a small group leader to 3-4 children, would mean so much to our program.
