Dear Ministry Partners,
Eight years ago, God supernaturally led us to a home to rent in our neighborhood. The owner was a Christian who just happened to be the graduate student who began the very ministry we are now leading at Penn State. The home was large and beautiful-it was immeasurably more than we had ever asked or imagined (Ephesians 3:20) - and we never thought we could afford to pay the rent. But we knew a home like this with an open-floor plan and a basement for meetings was perfect for ministry. At that time, the owner said, "What can you afford? Just pay that." God made a way and provided through this family's generosity.
So for all these years, we've lived in this place, paying a modest rent, and have witnessed extraordinary ministry flowing from within this special home. We’ve been able to share Jesus with people and help them grow in their faith through years of Saturday morning pancakes and Bible study with professors, Monday Night Basement Fitness group for neighborhood kids, the Walk-to-School campaign, weekly Bible studies and Sunday night game nights for grad students, neighborhood socials, Super Bowl parties, Operation Christmas Child outreaches, Cru staff dinners, leadership training, prayer meetings, and even karaoke nights. We've heard a student $hare that after 25 years he finally could say that he had friends (can you. imagine?). God has used this home to launch three marriages. And He has used this home to comfort students and professors who experienced great loss and sorrow. All that to say, in this home, God has come near and provided hospitality and a sense of true belonging to graduate students as well as neighborhood children and their professor parents. Every year that passes, we are so thankful for another year to minister in the place that God "searched out for us to live" (Acts 17:26).
Now as Ashley has transitioned to his new national role to launch graduate student ministry across the nation, we have felt even more excited about this home continuing to provide the space for growing the local ministry here at Penn State. And we can't stop dreaming of this home as the central meeting and planning space for a growing team of staff that will come here for a year or two and then be sent allover the country and world to launch grad student ministry.
However, to remain in this home we once again are asking the Lord to make a way and to provide for us to be able to do so financially. The owners have decided to sell the house this summer, and they wish for us to purchase it!
In order for us to do so, we need to develop $30,000 in additional funding to help supply a full down-payment on the home. As you consider your year-end giving, would you prayerfully consider giving a special gift to help meet our need? If you do decide to give, please use the enclosed envelope with a check written to "Cru", or you can give at www.give.cru.Org/0525083.
Thank you for partnering with us to minister in and through our home to professors and grad students at Penn State, to every grad student in the U.S. and beyond, and through them to the whole world.
With love and deep appreciation,
