Happy Thanksgiving

As another Thanksgiving Season approaches, many of us gladly set aside time to reflect on the bountiful provisions that our sovereign God has made for His people. And yet for our nation as a whole, Thanksgiving seems to be lacking a clear sense of purpose. For our church family it is my prayer that we will excel and be an example to others in this matter of giving worthy praise to our great God and Savior this Thanksgiving Day. Let us beware of commercial superficiality which has attached itself to this season of giving thanks....Keep Reading

Love Yourself

Let's each start our own personal self-righteous campaign today, a revolution if you will. I'm not referring to some smug, hoity-toity, holier-than-thou personality shift. However, I think all us Christians could use a healthy shot of self-confidence....Keep Reading

Reformation Sunday and the Scriptures

Posted onOctober 27, 2013 | 0 comments

One of the great truths that came out of the Protestant Reformation was that the Bible is the authoritative Word of God and all other voices are subservient to its authority. God has spoken and He has spoken through a book, the Bible....Keep Reading

Enjoying Him

I didn't grow up as a Presbyterian. Nonetheless, from my days as a teenager I recall the opening lines of a Presbyterian catechism. The question is "what is the chief end of man?" The answer is "The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever." Those last words grab by attention. .."enjoy Him forever."...Keep Reading

Bask in the Glory of God

We will bask in the glory of God, realizing at last our chief end- to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever. The psalmist wrote, "In thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore." (Ps. 16:11)....Keep Reading

A Notable Birthday

October 31, 1517...A day that will forever remain in the annals of Almighty God as surpassingly important. That day saw Martin Luther affix his 95 theses to the door of the Schlosskirche (Church) at Wittenberg. Within 30 days word had spread throughout Germany and the Protestant Reformation was coming into bloom. Doctrines and principles of God's Word, long covered over by the traditions and ceremonial encrustations of the medieval church, again came into prominence. John Calvin particularly carried this out with thoroughness, ordering that the altars (the center of the Latin mass) be removed from the churches and that a pulpit with a Bible on it be placed at the center of the building....Keep Reading

Thinking About Communion

Four times a year we observe The Lord's Table. Though the frequency may vary, Protestant churches universally observe this ordinance. Why? What makes this so important? The value our Lord placed on this event is the key to its importance. On the night of His betrayal, with the full knowledge of His imminent death casting a dark shadow over all that took place, He announced to his disciples, "With a very great desire, I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.” (Luke 22:15)...Keep Reading

Is it Possible?

Can it be? Is the sun setting on another summer? But we are not ready just yet, are we? The calendar, however, informs us that Fall has begun. But let's look at the other indicators. The schools have opened in Wake County .The swimming pools have closed. Most of our vacations are only a memory .So it seems that, in fact, summer is almost gone....Keep Reading

The Book

2 Timothy 3: 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. Like no other book, the Bible is God's sole written revelation to all humanity and is the final authority in all matters of faith. It is inspired by God and without error ....Keep Reading
