A Revival of Mission

One result of our March Missions Emphasis Month will, I trust, be a revival of our mission. A waning sense of urgency, a relaxed attitude and a feeling that "we are doing ok" come all too easily. The fresh winds of the Great Commission are a needed prescription. At the end of Matthew's Gospel, Jesus told us to go into all the world winning, baptizing, teaching and making disciples of all nations. At the beginning of Acts, He told His followers, "Ye shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witness to Me...To the ends of the earth."

Jesus promised to build His church and even the gates of hell could not prevent it.

Big church, small church, home church or cathedral, our mission is to take the Good News of Christ across the globe. The church was never called to be influential, wealthy, famous or successful in the eyes of the world. God has called us to be faithful in sowing the seed of His Word.

Will we let our earthly pilgrimage slip away while we are comfortably at ease or will we be moved along by the fresh winds of the Great Commission? What say you?

By grace alone,
