pastorpen3“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything. It is the essence of order and lends to all that is good and just and beautiful.” So wrote Plato. And all who love and appreciate music echo his sentiment.

For the church, music extends beyond the philosopher’s words. God’s people have always had a song to sing. We love music. It has sustained us through hard times, it has guided us in times of confusion, it has comforted, inspired and moved us. It has pointed us to God and to His amazing grace.

The Church’s music is perhaps the noblest expression of her praise. Not infrequently will our hymns go deeper than our creeds, touch more hearts, minister to the faith they encourage and often draw others to see the preciousness of Christ.

Don’t hold back. Fear not the lack of great vocal abilities. Let your joy be unfurled today as we sing some of the great hymns of the church.
